it shook me

so when it comes down to it, there is a reason things have felt down.

because the extreme prevalence of unfortunate obligations and pressures are crushing us from either end, stretching, twisting, threatening to fringe and snap like a string; but it could never break. you know that.

there are no spaces to write to you, spaces between the white noise and drone (grey, bleak) not a chance to break through to you.

make the words float in a way that didn’t seem possible before, with strength and a clear direction. less like a feather, more like an arrow.

something that would

shake you

rattle you. remember the candlelight? remember waking up and feeling like we had always known we were incomplete? and I don’t know if I ever told you this but wow, how fucking alarming it was to wake up to those blue skies and think to myself, without a twinge of hesitation:

“I feel awake (so awake). But everything is a dream.”

remember the first tiny piece of prose? stuck like a tack, minimized into a tiny screen for you to read, so far away (but so close). tiny characters, but they leapt out and stood before you like gleaming beacons in the thick black night. how heavy they were, how tangible, how utterly gigantic(!)

me: trying to take a moment to breathe. recalling that there is a framework weaved beneath this temporal fabric, making it strong; reinforced, solid. maybe it’s all trapped in this moment, and sometimes it gets lost, even though it shines brighter than all the rest. where the weight of it all is balanced on a string, but it doesn’t falter.

drifting back to when the echoes of the church bells and the train whistles outside were of a different galaxy and the white light of that afternoon was coming from somewhere far away.

and we were floating away from it, without a thought

without a glance.

(recalling) you:

roots only grow up and outward. so i’ll meet you up there, in the blue canvas stretched above, when they’re not just roots anymore.

it’s a little like that time you remember when your mom turned off the night light for the first time and you laid there in the darkness breathing heavily and hoping you wouldn’t feel the scratch of something emerging from below your bed -

it’s a little like that time you were left at the bus stop in the rain and felt like maybe you deserved it a little bit for the malice in your heart when you saw him fall off the swingset and smiled -

it’s a little like that time on the dock observing the glints of white on the murky waters and pretended like the ripples were waves and you were drowning -

maybe it was most like the time when you fell on the pavement in the sun and the dirt rubbed into your wound and it felt like salt -
